Welcome to The Trend Edit:

Providing you with exclusive info on the latest trends from the runway, street style, and brands.

The Fall/Winter 2021 Runway shows have brought us some exciting new trends that hopefully we can actually wear this year (lets try not to tempt fate!)

One of the stand out trends that seems to be dominating the runways is the 70s. From the flared pant to the disco collar, designers referenced the decade in details, prints and silhouette. The 70s not only represents free spirit and rebellion, it was also a time of hardship and darkness. So it does seem rather fitting that this era in fashion is making a comeback after such a turbulent and difficult year in 2020.

Here are some of the key macro trends within this mega trend:

Disco Disco

The 70s just wouldn’t be the 70’s without the famous disco era and we saw this look in abundance on the catwalks. Metallics, lurex, leather and sequins were key to this look and gave us the dose of optimism we’re craving after a year in lockdown. Versace, Stella McCartney and Givenchy were among the many designers to capture this vibe.

Hippie Vibes

Poncho’s, oversized silhouettes and folk details are back! Both Missoni and Chloe featured dramatic floor length ponchos while Coach and Patou were among the brands that featured quirky folk appliques and embroideries.

Girl Boss

70s style tailoring really packed a punch on the runways with statement flares and bell bottoms paired with oversized blazers and stand out details like the disco collar and sweater vest layering. Gucci, Stella McCartney, Off White and Versace were some of the brands who showcased these looks across their Fall/Winter and Summer shows this year.
